It is time for a makeover of our outdoor area and this year is very much focused on being cool and tropical. I’ve put together my wish list of all the things I’d love to incorporate, perhaps you’d like some of these too? I rarely ever do a full makeover of an area of my home, rather change a few things up to create the illusion of a full change. Throw rugs, cushions and floor rugs are my go to for maximum impact.
The Builder’s Wife Loves – Outdoor Area
When thinking about changing up our outdoor area, I’m looking for the big ticket items to provide the feel of the space I am after. Tropical is very much my decorating choice for our back outdoor area, while also bringing out the grey and blue that we use a lot of inside. My hope is to provide cohesion for the eye, rather than a jolting difference between indoor and out.
A. Ok so artwork my not traditionally go outside, but it can work especially well. This piece is from Final Touch Decor and it’s beach scene will work well with our tropical feel.
B. The first thing I would love to update for our outdoor area is the lounge situation. We are still using our very functional but clunky outdoor setting from 6 years ago. This gorgeous white setting from Vast Furniture and Decor ticks all the tropical boxes while having a Hamptons edge. I would have the covers redone in navy with white piping though.
C. Every good outdoor Friday night starts with a cocktail for me ? I’m crushing hard on the gold set, so different to the silver sets I currently have. This one is from Hunting For George.
D. Our kids are of the age that wearing a swim shirt is not cool, so we have a deal if they are in the pool in the middle of the day, they get 10 minutes only. Time for a new clock to measure said time limits!! Bed Bath N’ Table have this cute clock with roman numerals. They have some gorgeous mantle clocks that didn’t escape my attention either!
E. Pillow Talk is my go to for outdoor cushions. I love these fresh Limoncello cushions, fun, fruity and tropical! Cushions are such an easy, inexpensive way to update your outdoor area.
F. A new outdoor rug is a wonderful foundation for an outdoor area update. This blue rug from West Elm, helps the transition from indoor to out.
G. Summer or Winter I love a throw for outdoors. Great for when the chill comes in or for covering up from the later afternoon sun, handy to keep the mozzies at bay too! I found this stunning Ink coloured throw over at Just Bedding.
H. Finally, long time readers will know how much I love mood lighting and our outdoor area is not one to go wanting. These lanterns from Pottery Barn will be perfect for our refresh, and if you are quick they are 50% off!!
Updating an area of your home is achievable when thinking on a small or budget scale. Try something as simple as swapping out the cushions for an instant update!
Do you entertain outdoors much in Summer? Got a favourite cocktail recipe to share?
