Last Saturday I was thrilled to be able to share with an amazing group of women, at Kirsten and Co’s #popfizzchic event, not only how to create a vignette, but a few tips on how to upload it to Instagram as well. Today I would like to share those tips with you as well.

Instagram – A Simple How To Guide

Ok so you’ve styled your heart out and you are happy with your vignette, now it’s time to share it on the happiest of social media and my favourite, Instagram! Quite simply, first you need to take a photo, in fact usually when I am taking a photo for Instagram, I take 13, 17 even up to 20 photos trying to capture the vignette at its best angle.

Don’t be afraid to play around with the angle until you are satisfied the photo is showing it the way you would like to. Take the photo from above, from the side, experiment. Our eye has the ability to see so differently to what the camera does, play, play, play until you love the image.

Once you have a photo you are satisfied with, it’s time to upload it to Instagram.

Once you have chosen your photo press next and this is where the fun really begins. Filters!!!!! My best friend, these will help you lighten the image, create mood or ambience, filters are the bomb!! Play with the filters until you find one that is appealing to your eye, remember if you like others will too, especially your Insta friends, as we are all attracted to the type of people who are like us in their taste and style. Which is code for, your friends generally like looking at the exact same type of things you do, so choose what you like and others will like it too.

Once you have selected your filter, you can use the little sun button at the top to brighten your photo more. Typically photos taken inside, will not have enough light to be appealing or to accurately reflect what you can see with your eye. This little secret will help you do this.

Press the little sun and then slide the line to suit your photo from there press done.

This will take you back to the edit screen in which if your image is still not exactly as you would like, you can follow through with the edit button.

The edit button allows you to edit the colour, brightness contrast and so on. Not really necessary in most cases, but you do have the option if you require it.

Once you are satisfied with your edited image, press next.

This will take you through to the area in this process where you can add the words you would like to accompany your photo. Perhaps a short story about the photo or a description. From this screen you can also tag people or where you purchased your items from or add a location of where the photo was taken, you can also upload the same photo to Facebook and other social sites from here.

Let’s talk hashtags, hashtags are great for bringing traffic or attention to your photo. In many cases, fellow uses search Instagram via hashtags. On Saturday we used the event hashtag of #popfizzchic If you head over to Insta and search this tag, you will see all the fun we had and the wonderful community that is building.
