Renovation Ideas To Challenge Yourself With in 2017

This post is written in collaboration with LEDified.

2017 is already off to a flying start and we hope that you have been able to get the ball rolling with your renovation projects. Some of you will be whisking through your projects effortlessly, while some others will still be wondering what kind of activities they should be doing. If you are a part of the latter group, here are a few ideas that you can consider to revamp your property in 2017.

Add an office space to the exterior of your property.

For people who do their work at home, it can be difficult for them to be productive. They need a space that is private and secluded, without leaving the property that they own.

Investing in or building an office shed is an ideal option. You can opt to purchase one “off the shelf”. Supplies to build a studio shed start from $4,500 and go up depending on how much additional space you are after. Installation costs will cost another $5,000-10,000, depending on the supplier.

Ensure that the space has sufficient lighting. You might need to setup task lighting with residential LED lighting options to ensure that the light is distributed evenly. Also make sure that it is positioned at an angle that maximises solar lighting.

Caves for the men and women of the household.

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus. Most properties are designed to satisfy the needs for everybody. The truth is that comfortable as people might be with living in the property, they secretly desire the extra sense of comfort if they have a space that is personally customised to their needs and wants.

Most men will typically opt for a ‘blokes’ setup, which will consist of a bar full of refreshments, a games area, a barbecue and a social area. Women will typically opt for added comfort, but it would be ungentlemanly if the woman’s cave were to be outside of the home. So men can allow women to claim the interior space in the property while the men create their own space in a different area.

Invest in a dining table that also doubles as a pool table.

Fusion tables are available from a few hundred dollars up to a few thousand dollars, depending on where you purchase it from. It’s a great way for guys to save on space, while having the option to change the dynamic from a ‘chilled social gathering’ to one of game play. Designs can be seen via the following link.

Gaming/Television area.

Whether your man is an Xbox, Playstation or desktop kind of guy, he will want to have a setup that is efficient for gameplay and relaxation. Install  a storage area for his consoles and games so that he will never be bored.

Walk-in shower

One of the ways you can really transform your bathroom in 2017 is by getting rid of your shower doors and installing a walk-in shower that can only be described as ‘heavenly’.

Next, you want to make sure that you install luxury shower options such as a rainfall shower head and a waterfall head. You can even go an extra step further to maximise the ‘private spa’ sensation by adding a steam room element to your bathroom.

Social fire pit.

One of the ways to improve the social bonding in your household is to build a firepit out the back. As the evening sets in during the cooler months of the year, you can invite friends and family to keep warm around the fire pit.

Revamp your property by applying fresh paint with a modern colour scheme.

A “fresh lick of paint” can really work wonders and revamp the look and feel of a property. Some of the recommended colours by ELLE Décor include Dusky Blue, Blue-Green or a Sunshine Yellow.

Water feature.

Give your property the right balance of yin and yang by adding a water element that will help calm the energy in your property. Even if you aren’t a believer in Feng Shui, having a water feature will make the ambiance in your property feel more tranquil.

Install a hanging water fountain.

Create a serene focal point with your living space by installing a hanging water fountain. Maximise the minimalistic design in your home by freeing up floor space with a horizontal or vertical wall design. Choose marble, granite or slate to create rippling sounds as the water caresses the surface.

Now that you have a few ideas, it’s time for you to think about which ideas you can apply. Get ready to rumble in 2017.
