Long time readers of the blog will know that my daughter has been living overseas for almost 2 years. It’s been long and difficult for this Mumma to be without her girl, but time is nearly up, and she is returning home in January!! Which means I have to give her a bedroom again!! When she first left, we made over her bedroom and turned it into our sitting room. With some recent changes with our household, we now have a new bedroom for her to come home too. So it’s time to get her furniture out of storage, and give new her room a budget bedroom makeover.
Quick Budget Bedroom Makeover
My daughter packed up most of her belongings before she moved away. Opening the boxes has been quite emotional, however I have left most of the unpacking for her to do when she gets back. As a young woman I am sure it is time for her to explore her own decorating style, so we’ve kept this budget bedroom makeover to the bed alone.
My wish is for her to arrive home, and feel comfortable and inspired to take on new challenges, including the decorating of her room. I’d like to paint her bed white before she arrives, just to further complete this mini makeover. For now though, we have updated the linen, added an art piece, some cushions and a bedside table.
I am absolutely in love with the artwork which I think reflects my daughters personality perfectly. Now a worldly traveler, my hope is that she will feel inspired to continue traveling, even if Mum actually wants to keep her home! This reminder of how big the world is, in bright colours true to her personality, should bring a smile to her face, and keep her imagination alive. The canvas comes from Final Touch Decor.
The next choice to be made was the quilt cover which we got from Just Bedding. My girl is not at all girly and so pink is generally out of the question, but this soft dusty pink suits her perfectly. The stitching is almost Aztec inspired and I hope again will reflect her love of travel. With a beige base, it sits nicely against the wall colour in this room. The soft blue European pillow cases bring up the soft blue in the cover and ties to the canvas.
On her new bedside table, I added her favourite lamp, a candle from the shop, faux flowers and her clock from before she left.
The cushions came from Kmart, and add the texture the bed needed. I just love the soft muted colours on the quilt cover. Easy as that with only a few products we’ve updated her bedroom, ready and waiting for her to come home.
It’s pretty without being overly feminine and travel inspired, perfect for her personality.
Have you updated a bedroom recently? What colours do you like in a bedroom?
