With so much happening here at the moment it is really difficult to find which bits of our Pen Y Llechwedd to update you on without giving it all to you at once ? Here are a few of the little things we have done that have made a big difference lately.
Refreshing The Front Garden
If I was really honest, formal gardens are my thing. I just adore the order that comes with a formal garden. One of the downsides of our Pen Y Llechwedd is that there was a very established tropical garden in the back when we arrived. While I have grown to love it (ha! see what I did there!!) I have missed a formal space. This is where the front garden is stepping up to the plate and helping my love for formal gardens out. When we first took possession of our home, the front garden was well overgrown, with the hedges looking more like shrubs and weeds being the only mass planting. We have since done away with the weeds, added some roses and hedged everything in sight. I was loving it, but the garden to the side of the path was just not doing it for me. Still a little messy it was time to bring in the experts to help us decide how best to utilise the space. This is the result, we added a brick border and the rocks along with a watering system and a few pots and we now have a crisp formal garden on both sides.
More work will be done on these gardens when we change the fence and widen the driveway, but for now we are really happy with the changes.
Additions to the Library
Our library is still one of my favourite rooms. I love adding to it as we find appropriate items. It is a more masculine space than anywhere else in the house, and this has made finding suitable items a little more time consuming, especially as we are looking for as many original pieces as possible. In the last few weeks we have added a bar cart and a plant stand. The Builder loves his bar cart, especially on a Friday afternoon when he is on drinks duty ?
The plant stand was my idea as I think every room should have a plant or flowers, and such a masculine space needs a plant rather than pretty flowers.
We added to this a couple more of my talented friends drawings, to complete our little gallery wall. Overall I am nearly done with this room, we need a new chair for the desk and a few pieces for a vignette on the desk, but otherwise we are happy.
With so many big things happening it has been easy to forget to share some of these smaller improvements. I do hope you love them as much as I do.
Have you made any little changes to your home recently? What is your favourite flower?

I can’t wait to see all the changes – the suspense is killing me. I’m especially excited about the library, it’s such a glorious space and it just got even more glorious because…. Bar cart!
