Every now and then I get an irresistible urge to freshen up my home. While I don’t have a large budget, a bit of a refresh can be a great way to satisfy the urge and freshen up our home. We have a fairly neutral palette so giving our lounge room a makeover was not a difficult challenge to take on. Each season I add and subtract various parts of our decor to ensure our home reflects the requirements of the season, for example the warmth required for the cooler months and the cool required for the warmer months. Creating a makeover of a space is much the same.
Our Lounge Room Refresh
Let’s take a look of what it was like before. Here is a shot of our lounge as featured in Queensland Homes magazine in 2017.
You can see the base palette of the grey lounge, the velvet ottoman and jute rug on the floor.
The rug is where this transformation began. After choosing our new rug from Unique Rug Store for the gorgeous blue tones, we wanted to add more blue to the room, but in a subtle way. From here new cushions were used, gorgeous throw rugs and the art work swapped out for these stunning blue and white pieces.
I am a big fan of using baskets for storage of my throw rugs, we have many for every season as the kids love nothing more than snuggling up on the lounge with a throw rug. While we kept our plates and sidetable as they were, I have swapped out the cushion on the single chair. I have included a full list of suppliers below, as you will see many of these are now available in my shop.
- 1. Cushion Pom Pom Grey – The Builder’s Wife Shop
- 2. Cushions in black and white – Ikea
- 3. Throw Basket Weave Blue – The Builder’s Wife Shop
- 4. Cushion – Pillow Talk
- 5. Beige Over Dyed Rug – Unique Rug Store
- 1. Throw Knit With Gold Trim – The Builder’s Wife Shop
- 2. Pom Pom Shopping Bag – The Builder’s Wife Shop
- 3. Cushion Pom Pom Black – The Builder’s Wife Shop

This was a really easy change up for this room, specifically because we had originally chosen neutral pieces that we could mix and match with. I do get bored with a room rather quickly, so this was always a priority for our home. Changing a space can be as easy as swapping out a few cushions, or changing up a rug! Have a look at how the rug from Unique Rug Store alone made a massive difference.
I encourage you, if you feel like a change to try something as subtle as a rug, or a throw or a few cushions to see how it can transform your space.
