Pen Y Llechwedd – An Update

Pen Y Llechwedd – An Update

It’s now two years since we bought our Pen Y Llechwedd, 6 months of rushing around trying to renovate as much as possible ready for us to comfortably live here, and 18 months of getting so busy with paid work we haven’t been able to finish some of our projects. Two years in the making for this next few weeks. It’s time to get a flurry on and finish few projects.

First up, the ensuite. Now our ensuite is an ok size, not great, but it has been but do-able. I miss having a bath, and the shower is really too small, but it has functioned well for the time it has too. I am excited to say, that it is going to be extended though. We will have enough room for a bath, a bigger shower and a VANITY!!! We have come from having a super big double vanity to no vanity at all, just a sink, with not even enough room for a pretty hand soap. My excitment for this room knows no end. Can’t wait to be able to show you some after photos.

The space from the wall without cladding to where the door starts, will become part of our ensuite.

Consecutively we are temporarily renovation the laundry. I’ll wait while you scroll down to the before photo. That thing I’ve been calling a laundry, has finally broken my back, and we are biting the bullet and putting in a temporary one. Yes a considerable expense for the short term, but on we hope to be able to on-sell once we take it out.

The kids TV area downstairs has been in need of a freshen up since we moved in, so this space is getting new furniture, as well as having the beam replace to allow us to get rid of the steel pole. Imagine how much lighter this space will look!

We also anticipate being able to begin the preparation for our pool and pool house in the next couple of months. I’d love to have it all finished by Christmas, but would be happy for even just the pool to be in and the pool house to come later.

Finally we are also fixing the front stairs. A hazard in the rain, as the water pools and doesn’t get away, also rotting after years and years of being in the weather. This will freshen the entry of our home so much. It is a project we started about 6months ago, but as usual work got in the way.

You can see the damage to the stair from years of water sitting on them, the trick however is using our carpentry skills to create the balustrade again.

So a quick flurry of work and then the opportunity to ‘relax’ even more in our home before considering the big extension some time next year.

Do you have any renovation plans you are working on? Which room in your home would you love to change? What colour tiles do you think I should in the ensuite?

  1. So exciting! I love change that means space is either more functional or increases our happiness with how we use the space! If there is one thing I wish we could do here now it would be to add a bedroom but I am not sure apart from going up how we could do that. Unless we plan on living here for ever I am not sure the expense would be worth it.
I am so excited for you I can’t wait to see the after photos!

    1. I am crazy excited myself! The investment is certainly worth it with a forever home, however it always needs to be weighed up wen not keeping a home. xx
