Pen Y Llechwedd-An Update

Moving into suburbia meant for us the dream of moving to a smaller block. Crazy right?!? but after maintaining 6 acres for 5 years, we’d had enough of mowing and weeding. A smaller block means more time enjoying our space. Pen Y Llechwedd had many attractive points, one of which is the size of her garden.

We have a 1200m2 block, and although he yard is largely tiered, it does provide us with the opportunity for veggie gardens, a large grassed area, tropical gardens as well as a formal garden out the front. For us we have the best of everything and we are right in the middle of town!

Garden maintenance here is easy, just a few hours for the big clean up once a month or every six weeks, plus the usual weekly mow of around 45 minutes is all it takes to keep it in tip top shape.

The big clean up, is really just lots of hedging, we have many hedges in the front formal garden, but if we hedge them regularly, it’s really no bother at all. The roses all get a trim, a fertilize and a little weed, and that’s the front garden done.

The back one is even more simple, with a bit of a weed spray and a tidy up and they are finished. We are still finishing off stage one of the garden makeover ready for my 4oth next year, which shows here with a bit of turf to be laid, but really we are now just at the maintenance stage.

Overall we love our garden, and the wildlife it attracts, it’s a beautiful place to be.

Do you have a green thumb? Are you a fan of tropical gardens?

  5. […] My blog and my business are rather connected, I blog at The Builder’s Wife and my husband (aka The Builder) and I own a construction company Fernbrooke Homes. My husband has been a builder for just over 20 years, and in 2011 we decided to take the leap and open our own business. We build mainly residential homes, and specialise in Queenslander renovations and extensions. The blog is an extension of the business in the way that it is my passion to empower women through the building process. We aim for the blog to be a placed of education and support, while also sharing our own renovation of our 100 year + Queenslander. […]

  6. Gorgeous pics, this might be my favourite TBW post yet ?
