My Favourite Space-Karin from Calm to Conniption

Today sees the beginning of my newest series, My Favourite Space. Each week, some of my favourite people will be joining me to share their favourite space. I hope you enjoy the insight into their lives as much as I do.

My Favourite Space-Karin from Calm to Conniption

Karin first came to my attention as we had so much in common, she’s a lover of all things interior, a fellow Brisbane blogger and Mummy to 2, a gorgeous lady inside and out. Karin blogs over at Calm to Conniption where she shares everything from her pick of the Top Apps for Bloggers to her awesome Mother’s Day Gift Guide. Take it away Karin!

Tell us a little about yourself?

Hiya! I’m Karin and you can find me on my little blog, Calm to Conniption. I am a Mum of two little kidlets, a FIFO wife, an interiors addict, tea enthusiast and a bit of a free spirit.

Tell us about your favourite space?

I have a woman cave/she-shed/or just call it a plain ol’ office that is filled with some of my favourite things. The room is actually a “media room” in our house but we thought it is a bit of overkill for another TV room so I have taken over. It isn’t completely decked out how I would completely love it but it is getting there.

What is it about this space that makes it your favourite space?

The space makes me feel far more creative than I really am. Or maybe it is that it makes me LOOK more creative. My beautiful guitar is in there that I still can’t play properly but have recently picked up again and am attempting to teach myself.

My desk space is filled with inspirational quotes and my own goals are charted on the wall. Plus there is a whole lot of junk that I really need to be cleaned out. It is on my to-do list.

The room also has two big bookshelves from Ikea filled with all my books; something that I wanted for such a long time but never had the space for.

It is my place to decorate and do what I will without having to think about the kids (though my son still enjoys a visit…) or my husband.

What are your favourite items in this space?

There are a few items in the space that make it extra special to me.

It is home to two vinyl reclining rocking chairs that belonged to my Nana (my Mum’s Mum), which have travelled around with me from house to house for 8 years now. I actually tried to sell them once and I am so glad no one bought them! They are in desperate need of a recover but it is well hidden under rugs. They have been through a lot. One was actually on my balcony in Airlie Beach for quite a while, perfect for an afternoon siesta!

I also have a buffet from my other Nana (my Dad’s Mum) in the room too. When she passed I couldn’t dare see it go anywhere else. It still has tobacco stains all over it from its days in her house. I love its character. The glass is a bit fragile now so I don’t put much on the shelf inside. Whenever I open the draws I expect to see all the old photos that she used to keep in them. I find it hard to actually put other stuff in them.

How does this space make you feel?

The space makes me feel inspired and relaxed. I always feel more pumped and on top of things when I work from there. I also feel nostalgic with all the old furniture and ornaments around the place. Basically if the piece has a story it can be found in my little cave.

There you have it, a little sticky into Karin’s Favourite Space. My Nan totally had the same buffet when I was growing up, and I have a few guitars lying around I am yet to learn to play, but most of all I love that Karin has her own space! One day I’ll share my little excuse of a blogging office so you can all have a right good giggle.

Karin can be found here……… Facebook , Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and her Blog

Do you have a musical instrument lying around the house you’d love to be able to play? A favourite space to share?

  1. Karin, I am so jealous. I want a woman shed too!!! Except yours would be a lot cooler than mine ? Mine would be filled with all things Audrey Hepburn ? I didn’t know you were a Brisbane blogger too. We should all catch up some time. Ps. Love that buffet.

    1. I love my zone. It still needs a tidy up. Nothing wrong with a bit of Audrey. ? Brissie girl. I think all us Brisbane bloggers should catch up soon. Something I have been contemplating organising or getting some interest for first.

      1. Put me on the list! I’ll be there ? xx

    2. I so totally want a woman shed! I’ve told my hubby (he might of giggled at me) but it’s on the list!!

  3. I love reading Karin’s blog and now I get to have a sticky beak where all the magic happens! I love that she gets to have her own space and put all her things in it… now I want a woman shed too! Those nana treasures are so cool! Thanks for letting us look through the keyhole, Karin!

    1. Love Nana treasures they are totally the best! Can’t replace those memories. I am the eternal sticky beak, that’s the whole motivation for the series! xx

    2. You’re welcome Sammie. I have loved sharing it. Love my Nana treasures too.

  4. I am putting a ‘lady cave’on my wishlist for the next house. Somewhere that I can be creative, have things that don’t fit in my bedroom or other parts of the house. A room just for me! Selfish sounding, but I like the idea of this. I blame you Karin now ? x

    1. Ha! I will take that. ?

  5. […] Today you can find me over at The Builders Wife where I share one of my favourite places, my lady cave she shed. […]

I too have a guitar in my room. I used to play a few chords but haven’t picked it up for years. It’s just a decorative item now! Xx

    1. One day I will be able to play something well, one day. x

  8. How wonderful would a she cave be? I love karins special space I’m going to make sure I have one in our new house but at the moment it’s the kitchen!

  9. The kitchen can be fun V and it is much more friendly to you than it is to me. Kitchens don’t like me much. ?

  10. Love Karins space. I want a she cave too! Love Karins blog too. ?

    1. Me too Bec. xx
