You would know by now how much I love Instagram, a place of endless pretty pictures and inspiration. This week on My Favourite Space I’m excited to share with you a space from a page I follow on Instagram. I started following Wendy on Instagram as we both share a love of blue and white, and our houses are quite similar. Wendy is now living in a gorgeous 104 year old home, and I’m sure you’ll agree the verandah is an inviting space to sit and enjoy.

Tell us a little about yourself

I’m retired & have the time to indulge lifetime passion of mine- old houses and interior design. We moved from our last home, planning to purchase a unit to downsize. What was I thinking!! Instead we moved into an even older house. Talavara is 104 years old & I find it a joy to live in every day.

What is your favourite space?

My fave space is the front verandah, with its original verandah railings & timber flooring.

What makes it your favourite space?

Its private with lattice screening & it’s a pleasant space for all seasons. It’s a great space to relax late on a summers day, eat breakfast on a Summer’s morning or chase the morning sun on a Winter’s morning.

What are your favourite items in this space?

It’s a tie between the pretzel chairs & the cane daybed. The cane daybed is a great place to lounge of an afternoon with a book or magazine.It’s pretty special moreover as it was a gift from a dear friend, who knew I was in the market for one. I’ve always had wicker style furniture but in a quantum leap, I purchased the original pretzel chairs which had gained my attention . These are vintage ( from the 60’s I think), beautifully made & very comfortable.

How does this space make you feel?

I feel grateful that we landed in a place that has soul. It’s a place we can inhabit at many times through the day & it’s a great space for chatting with neighbours & visitors alike.

What a beautiful space! Thanks Wendy for sharing a little piece of your home with us, I love the dappled light on the verandah and can see how this would be an easy space to share company and relax.
