My Favourite Space with Leeane Anderson

My Favourite Space with Leeane Anderson

When first learning about today’s My Favourite Space guest, Leanne Anderson from Getaway Guru, I may have spent a good hour or more looking through her website. You see Leanne has had the brilliant idea to develop a business that rents Australian and New Zealand owned properties in Bali, France, Italy and Monoco. What a dream business. It left me realising I need a holiday!!

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Leanne (which to make introductions interesting is actually pronounced Lee-arne – which coffee barista’s can never pronounce so my name is frequently mumbled as Lee!). Anyhoo…I love coffee, champagne, reading and travelling and if I can combine those 4 items in one experience – I’m a happy gal.

I’m married to a man that I travelled in a van in Europe for 6months with – so having survived that, we’re definitely in for long haul (18 years married, 25 years together…and counting). We have two gorgeous boys who I cannot believe are now 15 and 12 (and with that our primary school years are behind us). I am at my happiest when I am travelling; planning travelling; reading about travelling or dreaming of travelling (with a glass of champagne in hand)!
I’ve been lucky to spend a lot of time travelling in Australia and overseas, combined with opportunities to live overseas and in different states in Australia (itchy feet!) and am now lucky to have turned this love of travelling into a business and blog (Getaway Guru).
I actually work across 2 different industries/jobs – I am a HR consultant by day (part-time) and a business owner by day, night, weekend – can you tell it’s where my passion is! I own Getaway Guru, which offers Australian and NZ owned holiday rentals across Bali, France, Italy and Monaco and love that through Getaway Guru I get to vicariously travel every day with every booking of a holiday rental property via the site.
Tell us about your favourite space?

My favourite space is actually the favourite space of many locals and tourists alike – it’s Bondi Beach. We made the decision to make a lifestyle change about 2 years ago which saw us pack up and sell our home on the North Shore of Sydney to move to the Eastern Suburbs and are now so happy to have Bondi Beach as our local beach (whilst trading off land and a double garage lol).

What is it about this space that makes it your favourite space?
I think this quote from John F Kennedy sums up how I feel about my favourite space:
“All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back at the sea – whether it is to sale or watch it – we are going back from whence we came.” ~ John F. Kennedy.

What are your favourite items in this space?
My favourite items are probably more the experience of the beach itself – so my 3 favourite experiences:
• Walking to the beach – the moment I turn the corner and I see the beach, the sparkling turquoise water, you can just feel the load lift.
• That moment when you step into the water, then walk in, get up to your knees or thighs and then just dive in. It is so refreshing.
• Then, wrapped in a turkish towel, walk to one of the great café’s (Speedos at North Bondi is my current favourite) order a takeaway and sit on the grass to enjoy the ocean view and the warmth of the sun.

Heavenly! I pinch myself that I get to spend time doing this (weekdays are less frenetic than weekends when there are 1000’s of others also enjoying my favourite space!)

How does this space make you feel?

Spending time at the beach, in the water, looking at the water, walking along the beachfront – it all makes me feel like I’m on holidays. It’s so relaxing and refreshing and is such a great way to wash off the stress of a busy day/week. It’s cleansing I guess you could say!

far less crowded on a weekday Bondi

Sometimes my husband and I will pop down for a late afternoon swim and then stop into the one of the restaurants overlooking the beach and treat ourselves to a chilled glass of beer/wine and just gaze in awe at the ocean and say to each other for the millionth time – how lucky are we!

Thank you Leeane, I love Bondi and I am extremely envious at the thought of being able to pop down for a late afternoon swim and then enjoying a glass of wine at a cafe on your walk home! That sounds amazing!!!

If you are thinking about taking a holiday overseas, be sure to check out Leeane’s website. Getaway Guru can also be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Where is your dream overseas destination? Taken a holiday recently?

  1. Thanks for letting me hang out at ‘your place’ Nicole, has been such fun!

  2. Oh I will take any holiday at the moment! We have the Whitsundays booked for the September school holidays and that is exotic enough for me. Though, Monaco does sound very appealing. ?

    1. We are a little short on time for holidays, going to take an extra day or two when we head on over to Hamilton for the national HIA awards in May. That will be it for this year I think. (Oh how I do hope I am wrong though :))
