Welcome to this weeks post of My Favourite Space, we have Renee from Mummy, Wife, Me joining us today, with a little sneak peak of her beautiful lounge room. Renee blogs about Motherhood, her family and her journey of self rediscovery in awesome posts such as Get your happy on-Mix tape where she gave us all the gift of a super cool mixed tape, and the really interesting post, The difference Between Mums and Dads. Renee also has a super talented hubby, who designed and built their own home. Grab a cuppa and enjoy this look into Renee’s beautiful space.
Tell us a little about yourself?
I’m mum to a four-year-old wannabe ballerina and a two-year-old tearaway with a smile that won’t quit. I’m wife to my best friend – a builder, designer and creator. I’m a blogger, writer and dreamer. I am a sensitive soul with a shy side. I always look for the best in people. I’m addicted to bagels with cream cheese and am excellent at pointless trivia about shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I prefer the beach over the country and can’t get through the week without a swim at our local pool.
Tell us about your favourite space?
My favourite space is our lounge / outdoor area. The downstairs area of our house is very open plan. The kitchen / dining / lounge and outdoor areas all flow effortlessly into each other. The way our golden black butt floor boards in our lounge spill out onto our deck makes that area of this open plan my favourite.
The lounge room is cradled between two seven panel bi-fold doors separating it from our deck. Opening these doors up makes our outdoor entertaining area and yard seem like an extension of our lounge room.
What is it about this space that makes it your favourite space?
I love to open up both sets of bi-fold doors, sit on a bar stool at our kitchen bench with a cuppa, and admire the view of our lounge, deck and yard. We are fortunate to have borrowed views from a vacant lot behind us making our yard seem a lot bigger than it is.
While our lounge / outdoor area is quite small (we are on a small lot), my husband has designed it in a way that makes it appear bigger than it actually is.
I love to be able to sit on my stool and watch the kids play either in the lounge or in the yard.
Our furniture is very minimal. We have a lounge, a cool lamp, a coffee table and TV. Our only other furnishings are collections of Barbies, glitter, sequins and crayons which adorn the floor.
From my bar stool I also have a great view of the stairs my husband, Dave, designed and built. Stairs are his specialty and he definitely did our house proud with these ones using elements from our external cladding as a funky balustrade.
What are your favourite items in this space?
My favourite item in this space is the coffee table Dave made me for one of my birthdays. There is a secret compartment in the middle of the table where he was going to hide an engagement ring, but the ring couldn’t wait for the table. It took him an age to find the right red to 2-pac the inside of the table. It is a symbol of the hard work, love and dedication Dave gives to every project he takes on. While it’s getting a little marked from the kids using it as a craft table, it still has pride of place in our lounge.
How does this space make you feel?
This space, when it’s not completely trashed with toys, makes me feel calm and happy. It makes me feel like after all of our years of travelling, we finally have a home.
Isn’t this room just wonderful, how about those stacker doors and the stairs, oh my those stairs. What a great space for a family, and how talented is Renee’s hubby! You can find more of Renee on her blog her Facebook page, and Pinterest
Do you have a favourite space in your home? What is your favourite part of Renee’s space?

The pleasure is all mine, thank you so much for joining in. xx
What a beautiful space! Love how the bifolds completely open up to create such a gorgeous indoor/outdoor area.
Thanks Kirsten x
Those bi-folds really make the space. I love it too!
I love the way the living room flows into the outdoor area – it really brings the outside in. And those stairs! Swoon! Oh, and I loved the story behind the coffee table. That’s what you call a family treasure! Looks like Renee and her husband are a perfect match; he crafts wood as beautifully as she crafts her words!
Oh Sammie. You’re too kind. Thank you x
Those stairs are my favourite stairs ever, what a feature! PS now you have the theme song from Perfect Match running around my head
I’ve had the pleasure of being at Renee’s house and it truly is an amazing place. What makes it even more amazing are the people who live in it. What a great series Nicole. Looking forward to more posts.
You’re such a sweetie, Bec. Thank you xx
