How to Chop a Cushion-Home Improvement Thursday

How to Chop a Cushion-Home Improvement Thursday

A little quiz on the blog at the end of last year revealed that you, my readers, would like more decorating advice. Now I will be the first to put up my hand and say, I am no expert, in fact a learner at best, however always wishing to please you, I commit to giving it my best shot. This very fact leads us to where we are today, learning how to chop a cushion!

How to Chop A Cushion

I’m going to let you in on a secret, I am not a fan of the whole chopping of cushion fad. In fact I really don’t like it,  but with my tongue firmly in my cheek, I’m going to share the secrets I have learnt on this newish decorating fad. 🙂

Step 1.

Step 2.

Step 3.

Prepare arm muscles for chopping action. Go on, warm those arms up, they will need the preparation.

Step 4.

“Chop” pillow with a firm blow, being careful not to “chop” too hard or too soft.

Step 5.

Carefully re-adjust cushion or pillow to be standing in the “just right” position.

As you can see, “chopping” a cushion or pillow is no easy feat, not for the feint hearted. It takes serious strength and training to perfect the art. Don’t the cushions looks some much better once “chopped”?

Are you a good pillow/cushion “chopper”? If you haven’t tried it before, now that you are ‘armed’ with all the skills, are you prepared to give it a go?

  1. I’m not a fan of the ‘chopped’ cushion either – my OCD doesn’t like it…however when I see it in magazines and on shows like The Block, it makes sense. One day I will get it, but in my home, the cushions are just fluffed.

Look forward to seeing more of your ‘interior design’ tips and tricks Nicole! Happy New Year to you and yours.

  2. I am not a chopper but the professionals make it look important xx

  3. Glad to see you are all over the chopping trend. I just spent $300 on new cushions and will now spend my afternoon working my way through this tutorial! Thank you! 🙂

  4. Very Impressive:) It’s Great idea. Thanks for sharing this useful post.
