Of all the decorating styles, Hamptons style is my favourite. I have been able to introduce some of this fresh style into our home, though not a huge amount as it’s far to coastal for our traditional Queenslander. I love the soft colours and tones when decorating in the Hamptons way. Clean lines, with just the right amount of clutter free accessories to keep a space warm and welcoming. Let’s take some time to look over some examples.
Hamptons Style Decorating The Basics
Colour
Soft greys, white, beige, blues and greens are all predominate colours found in Hamptons style decorating. Think soft and relaxed, coastal, fresh and clean. Beach, grass, sky and you’re there. Floors are often pale and belched timber or for a contrast, very dark timber. Both look fantastic!
Materials
Gentle layering of texture plays a big part in Hamptons style decorating. Think linen lounges, jute runs, timber paneling on the walls, soft sheer curtains, and strong accent timber furniture pieces. Each one of these carefully placed textures, add a richness to the story of the space.
Lighting
Feature lighting plays a big role in Hamptons style decorating. Strong focal pieces, accented by soft table lamps to create a relaxed mood in the room. Bright shiny or dark rich metals are both popular, along with natural products being used to create light shades.
Accents
This is where is it important to think not only coastal, but fresh, clean and uncluttered. Small pops of colour are often used to draw the eye to a particular part of the room. Coral, shells, rocks, flowers and foliage are all popular accents, along with gorgeous luxury pieces to add that lux feel.
