Easy Updates For Your Autumn Home Decor

Ok, so it really doesn’t feel like Autumn here in Brisbane yet, we’re in the middle of a March heatwave! But it won’t be long, and the days will be noticeably shorter and the air will become a little cooler. When that does happen, you’ll want to be prepared with some easy updates for your Autumn home decor.I’ve mentioned before that I like to subtly change my home decor to suit the seasons, all four changes in the year bring changes to the living areas and bedrooms in our home. Here are a few ideas to get your home Autumn ready!

Easy Updates For Your Autumn Home Decor

Fireplace

Over summer we disguise our fireplace, nothing says hot like a fireplace, but with Winter approaching, we like to clean it out, stack it with wood and have it ready to go. This is also a great tip for making an Autumn home decor update, with the bonus of having you prepared for that first cold night.

Throws & Cushions

I like to change my cushions and throws as the cooler months approach. We love our gorgeous florals with oranges and greens for Autumn and Winter, while in Summer we have cooler whites and pinks. Now is a great time to lay the foundation for your Winter decor and change your cushion covers, while adding some heavier knit throws.

You might even like to bring in a basket to house your throws ready for those cooler afternoons on the couch. Choose warm colours that compliment your base colour, in our case the grey lounge. If you have a neutral tone on your base pieces, it becomes cost effective to swap out your cushions covers and throws as the seasons change.

My favourite change with the shorter days is my daily ritual of turning on the lamps. For me, it signifies the end of the workday, which is key to my relaxing time. In Summer we tend only to use one or two lamps around our home, come the cooler time of year and shorter days, we have more lamps available to turn on.

Lamps can be an inexpensive way to update your home decor while creating a wonderful warm ambience for your home. We also tend to light a few candles each evening, which again help to create a warm and comfortable in our home.

Foliage

Autumn is a time of year where Nature is showing us its best. I love to use foliage instead of flowers in my home at this time of year. A vase filled with beautiful leaves, especially as they are changing colours, is as stunning as a flower arrangement, and can often be found in your back yard. While Autumn is fleeting here in Brisbane, the rest of the country gets to enjoy the glorious cooler weather long before we do. Now is a great time to make a few changes in your home, to have you prepared.

Do you change your decor with the seasons? Any orange in your home?
