7 Apps For The Home Renovator

We love DIY renovators here at The Builder’s Wife, especially when done properly. With a little assistance, most of us can turn our hands to either organising our own renovations, or give some DIY work a go. But how do you find that assistance? There are lots of websites that can take you through step by step guides on what to do and even more practically there are plenty of apps for the home renovator, that will assist you in organising your renovation or help you get your DIY efforts right.

1. Resene Colour Match App

Choosing a paint colour is a terrifying task for so many of us. However if you’ve seen a colour, whether in nature or on a wall, this app will allow you to take a picture and find the closest Resene colour match. I think it’s an ingenious way to find the exact colour you love.

2. Quick Chippy

I’ve spoken about this app previously, but seriously I love it! Some of our carpenters even use it, that is how fantastic it’s functions are. Quick chippy is a collection of calculators, which will save you time and money be preventing mistakes! A great app for the home DIYer and professional alike.

3. Pinterest

Um hello, if you are looking for serious home inspiration, home waste a few hours with me on Pinterest. Even the Builder loves Pinterest, there are just so many images to choose from. What better way than to get yourself excited about your upcoming renovation! Pinterest also works like a search engine, simply type in what you are looking for in the search bar, and be prepared for pretty images to overwhelm you.

4. Rapid Reno Mate App

This brand new app to the market is the genius of Naomi Findlay. Marketed as the renovators best mate, this free app is able to do so much more than any others I have come across. From styling assistance, to organising your appointments, you can even search for products using the app.

5. Houzz

Houzz is an app that really is the one stop shop for home renovators. From photos for inspiration, to shopping and finding your professional, this app is a whole bunch of fun. I really enjoy the expert articles and the opportunity to ask a question in a forum where professionals from interior designers to builders and everyone in-between can answer.

6. Photo Measures

This app is really helpful for all stages of renovating, but I use it for when we are selecting furniture for a room. The app allows you to take a photo or a room, and add the measurements for reference or for ordering new materials. Super handy for me to remember the scale of a room when choosing the furniture I would like to put in it.

7. Bubble Level

Don’t have a level? Easy, download this app and have one on your phone. That said, some phones now come with this as a built in feature, but if yours doesn’t, here is one for you. Never hand a crooked picture again!
