It my pleasure this week to be able to share with you the Favourite Space of Kylie from DIY Decorator. I had the privilege of meeting Kylie at an Instagram lunch last year, and she is as beautiful inside as she is out. Kylie and her friend Sam joined forces to create their website DIY Decorator, a wealth of knowledge for all us DIY buffs. Full of inspiration like DIY Gold Tray and DIY Easy Sew Napkins, but my personal favourite is the room tours. You simply have to check out this Contemporary Bathroom and you’ll want to drool over this Kitchen and Dining Nook. But, it’s Kylie’s own Favourite Space that has my heart…….
Tell us a little about yourself?
Hi, I’m Kylie. I live in an old 1930’s Queenslander in Brisbane with my husband, two teenage children and Gus, our schnoodle. I have been blogging about interior decorating and making home décor for over 4 years, but have been working solely on creating DIY Decorator for the past 19 months. Pretty interiors make me happy.
Tell us about your favourite space?
My favourite space in this house is my library. It’s only a small room, with a library bookcase on one side and a built in bench along the other. When we first moved in the previous owner left us the large upholstered seat cushion and four very wonky IKEA bookcases. I had always wanted one of those library cabinets with a ladder and I finally saved up enough money to get one. It’s made such a difference to the room.
What is it about this space that makes it your favourite space?
This is my favourite place to come to as I sit (or often lie) on the bench seat with a cup of tea and pour over recipe books deciding what to have for dinner or catch up on the latest magazine. I have built up quite a collection of interiors, craft and recipe books and all our family photo albums are kept here when I feel like a trip down memory lane.
What are your favourite items in this space?
My number one favourite piece is the library bookcase which is a eBay find. Then came the challenge of finding 11 scatter cushions to put on the bench seat so it created an inviting area. They are a mix of store bought, etsy and DIY ones that I sewed myself. Keeping with the blue and white theme are the two prints which I bought from Sprout Gallery, and framed in simple IKEA white frames.
Despite the age of kindle and online reading, I still love to read a hard cover book with beautiful photography, and I have accumulated quite a collection. I still can’t part with the Laura Ashley Complete Guide to Home Decorating book I bought when I was just 21.
How does this space make you feel?
This space makes me feel relaxed. It’s a place where I can escape the business of the kitchen/family area and come downstairs for some peace and quiet. With all our family photos and the little bibs and bobs that we have collected over the years from our travels which are displayed amongst the books, it’s like looking at a whole wall of memories.
Isn’t just perfect! I love how inviting the space is, and I’m so totally jealous that it’s a finished space. I wont even mention how horrible our unfinished one is at the moment.
Do you have a library or a library wall? What is your favourite part of Kylie’s space?
