Today is your opportunity to meet our builder, and my amazing husband, Adam.
Adam has been working in the building industry for over 20 years now and has seen many changes in his time. Here is my little chat with Adam……..
Tell us a little of your history in the building industry?
I started my apprenticeship when I finished high school 20 years ago. After completing my apprenticeship, I studied for my Certificate 4 in building. After another 4 years of practical experience I was able to successfully become a Registered Builder. During this time, I still worked in the building industry as a Carpenter. I have been self-employed for 16 years now and there have been a lot of changes since then. Every year I do courses to stay up to date on the latest news and regulations that affect the building industry.
What are your main priorities as a builder?
My main priorities as a builder are delivering a quality job in the shortest possible time, as well as ensuring that we have a capable and happy team of workers committed to doing the job right. We like to employ a range of different people where possible. We have many different people from different backgrounds, male and female; it doesn’t matter where you are from. If you’re the right person for the job then that’s all we look for. We also have a strong focus on the environment and community. We plant on average 150 trees per year through our re-forestation partners 15 Trees who plant these particular trees in various sites around Australia. Locally we support team sports as a sponsor and volunteer our time to help our community with other projects.
How do you see the industry changing in the years to come?
I see a big change in the way we dispose of our building waste, whereby we categorise our waste into various sections for more recycling. Also, I see a bigger focus on safety in the workplace.
Tell us something you enjoy doing when not working?
When I’m not working, I love to coach children’s Rugby League and when I’m not doing that, I like to unwind by watching a good comedy movie with my wife Nicole.
Where do you see the future for Fernbrooke Homes?
I see the future of Fernbrooke Homes expanding a fair bit. With designated office staff and on-site supervisors keeping a keen eye on their particular projects. It is important to us that we don’t grow too large so that we keep our focus on quality not quantity.
Adam is going to have a semi regular post on the blog, this will be an opportunity to answer some of your questions about anything building related. If you have a question you would like answered, please post here or don’t hesitate to email us via the contact button.
