In the last few years I have been blessed to meet some incredibly inspiring women. Today’s guest is one of those. My good friend Nikki from Hobbs Building and Interiors suggested that we get together at her friend Kylie’s event. Kylie, as she will explain further is the founder of “It Start’s With Us” and regularly hosts events which brings together amazing women to excite and inspire us. I loved the event and have become a huge fan of Kylie’s and what she is doing. I am very excited to share Kylie’s favourite space with you today. Enjoy!
Tell us a little about yourself?
Hello! I’m Kylie – wife, mum, teacher and business owner. I love spending time with my wonderful husband and beautiful son, being busy and organised, as well as celebrating everything that women can achieve! In all of my roles, I’m about empowering women to recognise their self worth, power and capabilities. It was this core value that saw me establish my passion project, IT STARTS WITH US, an event company that curates fabulous speakers with wonderfully inspirational and aspirational stories that motivate us to be who we want to be and life the life we desire.

My favourite space(s) – the lounge, dining and kitchen – are still very much works in progress and reflect our evolving modern coastal lifestyle. We purchased an apartment on the Tweed Coast in December 2013 and did a full renovation and moved into our new home in March 2014.
Despite being totally addicted to a myriad of gorgeous Instagram pages espousing beautiful combinations of furniture, homewares and soft furnishings, I’m essentially a minimalist when it comes to styling our home. We favour clean lines and our colours are relatively neutral despite having big impact. It’s my goal this year to create a lighter look with some injection of subtle colour. When we made our renovation choices, we opted for timeless options that would allow flexibility with decorating.
What is it about this space that makes it your favourite space?
These spaces really are the heart of our home. The connection between the kitchen, dining space and our three-year-old’s play space means no matter what we’re doing, we are able to be together. It’s really lovely to work at the dining table and chat to Luke while he’s prepping dinner in the kitchen and giggle with Parker as he plays with his toys.
What are your favourite items in this space?
I can’t claim much of the credit for the choices made in the renovation. Luke has the ability to see 3-D and also has a great sense of spatial awareness (both of which I lack!) so whilst we collaborated on colours and layout, he was certainly the brains of the operation.
He was also the designer of our bespoke butchers block blackbutt timber dining table. It’s an impressive 1.7m x 1.7m creation that had to be delivered in three separate pieces (on custom made trolleys!) because it was so heavy. Our builder suggested we get it sprayed with clear two pac to protect it and it was definitely worth the investment. We don’t have to worry about watermarks or spills on our hero piece! If we ever sell the apartment, it with be a gift with purchase so we don’t have to dismantle it!
How does this space make you feel?
I’m a proud home owner and get a real sense of accomplishment every time I walk down the hallway into our light filled space. It’s the heart and hub of everything we do. It suits who we are as a trio and the low maintenance is perfect for our busy beach side life. So to sum it up… this space makes me feel content.
Thank you for sharing Kylie, I love your home with it’s clean lines and neutral interior, a great family home.
